GLASS TILE INFORMATION & INSTALLATION GUIDELINES.

Glass Product Characteristics

Glass tiles are available in a wide variety of colour and texture, the application of which is restricted only by the imagination.

There are several characteristics which are common to these glass products:

· Strong and durable as ceramic
· Vibrant colours
·
Impervious to vapours and liquids
·
Resistant to most chemical exposure
· Easy maintenance
·
Zero porosity rendering them frostproof
· Simple to install

Slight variations in shade and size are a natural feature of fired glass products. These are not considered defects and therefore no claim will be accepted for such variances.

Installation Tips

Cutting :        To cut the tiles, use a glasscutter (ensuring the wheel is oiled) to score the tile along the required cut line. Place the score mark directly over a small diameter piece of material, such as wire or a small nail, and apply even downward pressure on either side of the required cut. Alternatively, you may use a sharp ceramic tile cutter. Rough edges can be smoothed with a sanding stone.

Fixing :          To fix the tiles, use white flexible cement-based adhesive, following the manufacturer’s instructions precisely. As the tiles themselves are non-porous, you may wish to use a rapid-setting adhesive on low-porosity substrates to ensure the fixative dries. Prepare the surface to be tiled as you would for ceramic tiles. The tiles must be fixed with a solid bed of adhesive. This can be achieved by ‘buttering’ the back of each tile to ensure even coverage. If any voids occur within the adhesive, they will be visible through the tile as dark patches. As a sample, you may wish to apply a coating of adhesive to the back of a tile and allow the adhesive to dry in full before checking the colour of the glass.

Grouting :      To grout, use fine-texture/non-sanded grout. The application and removal of grout is as per the manufacturer’s instructions, remembering that the surface of glass tiles is similar to a glaze and can be scratched by hard objects. Care should be taken during installation and after, if construction is to continue in the vicinity of the tiles.

Cleaning :      For the removal of grout residues, as well as for general maintenance cleaning we recommend Lithofin Shower Cabinet Cleaner.
